Me and my Dad in 1977

Breakfast at Saratoga - 1977

A lifelong racing fan, I am the son of a newspaper columnist who covered racing for more than half his career and loved the game all his life.

Growing up I was spoiled, but not in the traditional sense.

I spent the month of August in Saratoga, in a beautiful rented home, visiting the track each morning for the best cold French Toast and orange juice in town while watching the greatest Thoroughbreds in the country exercising.

In the afternoons I watched those same horses, underneath world-class riders, compete in the most challenging of races.

Through it all, my childhood, adolescence and now as an adult, I transform myself each summer back to being eight years old and reflecting on Saratoga Springs, NY: the town, the people and the racing.

Saratoga Springs, NY: Health History Horses … and you and I.

  1. You sound like a very interesting person Patrick. I am a thoroughbred owner with aspirations of running my horse at Saratoga this summer. I look forward to following your blog. Good luck!!

Well thank you random thoroughbred race horse owner. It is my wish for you that your do, in fact, run your horse at Saratoga and visited the coveted winner’s circle. I’ve never been in that ring of champions myself, but it is an enviable place to have your photo taken. Best wishes always. Go Giants!
